Loopcut

For artists

The part of Blender you did not sign up for.

Loopcut reads your scene and shows the Blender Python before running it. Ask for lighting, materials, naming or render setup. Every turn that changes the scene is a checkpoint. Undo all restores the scene and the conversation to before it.

Why we made it

Artists have good reasons to be wary.

A lot of what gets sold as AI for artists is trained on their work and aimed at their jobs. We use Blender every day, and we did not want that either.

Loopcut uses real Blender operations and library assets. You can read the code, inspect the scene and take over the work yourself.

The creative call is yours. The scene is yours. The code is open, so if we ever drift from that, you will see it in the repository first.

What it will not do

Four lines we do not cross.

Generate your art

Loopcut works in Blender Python and library assets. It generates nothing unless you ask and generation is on, and anything generated is labelled in your scene.

Run anything you have not seen

The code for every step is on screen before it runs. You approve it, or you tell it to stop asking for this conversation. It never edits a file silently.

Train AI on your conversations

With your ChatGPT plan, own key or a local model, requests go straight from Blender to the model. From version 0.2.6 the app sends us a log of each conversation, unless you turn sharing off, so we can help you and fix problems; we delete it after 90 days and never use it to train AI models. Hosted requests pass through our gateway, which keeps metering records, not content. Details are in the privacy policy.

Lock you in

Open source, any OpenAI-compatible model, standard .blend files. If Loopcut disappeared tomorrow, your files and your workflow would be exactly where you left them.

What it will do

Work in your open scene.

Describe the job. Loopcut reads the scene, shows the Python before running it, and checks its work with viewport captures and renders.

Read and organise

  • Read objects, materials and collections
  • Rename objects
  • Sort objects into collections

Lighting and materials

  • Set up lights
  • Assign materials
  • Check the result with viewport captures

Library assets

  • Search and import from Poly Haven and BlenderKit
  • Use your own asset libraries
  • Import from Poly Pizza

Render setup

  • Set up cameras
  • Set render and output settings
  • Check the result with renders

Checkpoints

Undo all

Every turn that changes the scene is a checkpoint. Undo all restores the scene and the conversation to before it.

Attach reference photos. Loopcut describes what it sees and builds toward it, in Blender, from your scene.
A real session in Loopcut 0.2.6, sped up: the scene and the chat go back to an earlier message, then forward again. Waits are cut; each restore of this 400 MB scene took 27 to 41 seconds.

Learn as it works

Every step is readable Python. That is on purpose.

Loopcut does not hide what it does behind a button. The bpy it writes is the same bpy you would write, shown before it runs. Plenty of people have picked up scripting by reading it and then taking over. We count that as a good outcome.

It is free to start: use your own key or a local model for nothing, or try the hosted free tier and keep going if it earns its place.

Open the file you have been avoiding.

Ask for lighting or materials. Read the code. Inspect the result.
