# Loopcut

> Loopcut is an open-source AI agent inside Blender. It reads your scene, shows the Python before running it, and checks its work with viewport captures and renders. Free with your own model.

You're the artist. Loopcut's the technician. An open-source AI agent inside Blender.

Ask for lighting, materials, naming or render setup. Loopcut reads your scene and shows the Python before running it. Every turn that changes the scene is a checkpoint. Undo all restores the scene and the conversation to before it.

Free on your ChatGPT plan, your own key or a local model. You sign in with a free Loopcut account, which adds assets and cloud services. Blender 5.2 inside. macOS and Windows.

## What you can hand it

Ask for lighting, materials, naming, render setup or assets from a library. Loopcut shows each step.

- **Naming and organising**: “Rename objects by material and sort the lights into their own collection.”
- **Materials**: “Give the chair a dark wood material and make the cushion blue.”
- **Library assets**: “Find a wooden chair on Poly Haven and import it beside the table.”
- **Lighting and cameras**: “Three-point rig around the bottle, 50 mm at eye level, white sweep behind it.”
- **Render and output**: “Cycles at 256 samples with denoising. Render frames 1 to 96 to EXR in a renders folder.”
- **Batch work**: “Render every material in the Colours collection on the chair, same camera, 1500 px square.”

## How a turn works

No new tools to learn and no export step. Loopcut works on the file you have open and explains itself as it goes.

1. **You describe the job.** In plain words, in a panel beside the viewport. Loopcut reads the open scene first, so it knows your objects, materials and collections by name.
2. **It writes the Python and shows you.** Every step is real bpy on screen before it runs. Approve each one, or let it run for the rest of the conversation.
3. **It checks the result.** Loopcut checks its work with viewport captures and renders, and tells you what changed.

- The code is on screen before it runs. Run it, reject it, or stop being asked for the rest of the conversation.
- When a step fails, the traceback is on screen and the next step fixes it. Nothing is hidden from you.

## Why we made it

Loopcut reads the scene, shows the code before running it, and checks its work. You can inspect the result in Blender.

- **Real Blender operations.** Loopcut works in Blender Python and library assets. It generates nothing unless you ask and generation is on, and anything generated is labelled in your scene.
- **Nothing runs unseen.** The code is on screen before it runs, and the result is checked in the viewport afterwards. You always know what happened and why.
- **Your model requests.** With your ChatGPT plan, own key or a local model, requests go straight from Blender to the model, never through our server. Hosted requests pass through our gateway, which keeps metering records, not content. The app also fetches our service list, sends Coming soon clicks and, from version 0.2.6 unless you turn sharing off, a log of each conversation that we keep for 90 days and never use to train AI models. Details are in the [privacy policy](https://loopcut.org/privacy).
- **Open-source app.** The agent and the Blender build are open source under the GPL. This website and the hosted service are not open source.

## Models

The best setup is both: your ChatGPT plan runs the conversation, and your Loopcut account runs the tools a chat plan can't.

- **Your ChatGPT plan** (Recommended). Sign in with ChatGPT and the agent runs on your Plus or Pro plan, with no charge from us. Your plan's usage limits apply.
- **Bring your own key** (Free). Paste a key from any provider. It stays on your machine and requests go straight to them. You only need the free Loopcut account.
- **Run it locally** (Free). Point Loopcut at a model on your own machine. Model requests stay on that machine. You only need the free Loopcut account.
- **Loopcut's models** (From $0 a month). Sign in from the app and start. Fast on every plan, the Pro model on Pro and Max, with nothing to set up.

Paid plans fund the project. Using your ChatGPT plan or your own key will always be free and never second-class. [See plans](https://loopcut.org/pricing)

## Your Loopcut account

What a chat plan can't do: services that need our GPUs and libraries, paid from one credit balance. Services open in stages; pricing shows which are ready now.

- **Find assets.** Search free models, materials and HDRIs across Poly Haven and other libraries, licence noted, imported into the scene.
- **Picture to 3D.** Turn a reference picture into a 3D model in your scene, then remesh it into quads for your engine.
- **Voice and sound.** Scratch dialogue for an animatic without recording yourself, and whooshes, footsteps and impacts that match the shot.
- **Render in the cloud.** Render on our GPUs, checked frame by frame, while you keep working on your machine.

## For artists, studios and coding agents

- [For artists](https://loopcut.org/artists): Ask for lighting, materials, naming and organising in your open scene. Read the code before it runs.
- [For studios](https://loopcut.org/studios): Set up lights, materials and renders around your models. Review the steps in Blender.
- [For coding agents](https://loopcut.org/render): Claude Code, Codex and Cursor can render your scene on our GPUs and bring the frames back. Plain Blender is enough.

## Questions

More on plans, credits and what we keep on the [pricing page](https://loopcut.org/pricing).

### What is Loopcut?

Loopcut is an open-source AI agent inside Blender, for macOS and Windows. It ships as its own Blender build, with Blender 5.2 inside and a panel beside the viewport. Describe a job in plain words, such as lighting, materials, naming or render setup, and Loopcut reads the open scene, shows the Python before running it, and checks its work with viewport captures and renders. It works in Blender Python and library assets, and generates nothing unless you ask and generation is on. The agent and the Blender build are open source under the GPL.

### How does a turn work?

A Loopcut turn starts with a request in plain words, typed in the panel beside the viewport. Loopcut reads the open scene first, so it knows your objects, materials and collections by name. It writes real Blender Python (bpy) and shows each step on screen before it runs: approve each one, or let it run for the rest of the conversation. When a step fails, the traceback is on screen and the next step fixes it. Then Loopcut checks the result with viewport captures and renders, and tells you what changed. Every turn that changes the scene is a checkpoint. Undo all restores the scene and the conversation to before it.

### Which AI models does it use?

Loopcut runs on the model you choose. Sign in with ChatGPT and the agent runs on your plan, with no charge from us: ChatGPT Plus or Pro required, and your plan's usage limits apply. Or paste a key from any OpenAI-compatible provider, or point Loopcut at a local server on your own machine; neither needs an account. Or sign in to a Loopcut account and use Loopcut's own models: Fast on every plan, the Pro model on Pro and Max. With your ChatGPT plan, own key or a local model, requests go straight from Blender to the model, never through our server.

### What does it cost?

Loopcut is free with your ChatGPT plan, your own key or a local model: every feature of the agent, with no Loopcut plan and no limits from us. The free Loopcut account you sign in with adds asset search, Loopcut Fast with a weekly allowance, and 100 credits every month for cloud services such as render, images, picture to 3D, voice and sound effects. No card needed. Every service shows its price in dollars before it runs. Paid plans add more monthly credits, top-ups and the Pro model, and they fund the project. Using your ChatGPT plan or your own key will always be free.

### Is Loopcut the same as Blender's Loop Cut tool?

No. Loop Cut and Slide (Ctrl+R) is Blender's own tool for adding edge loops, and it works as before. Loopcut is a separate, open-source AI agent that ships inside its own Blender build. Blender is a trademark of the Blender Foundation; Loopcut is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Blender Foundation.
